Truckers Participate in Weyerhaeuser’s Truck Visibility Day
PLYMOUTH, N.C., April 30, 2004 — About 75 trucks are better equipped to travel the roads after a Truck Visibility Day at Weyerhaeuser Company’s paper mill in Plymouth. Weyerhaeuser team members talked with each trucker, applied reflective tape on trailers and handed out gift bags of safety items during the day-long event. The participating drivers represented a number of private trucking companies throughout the region.
“We see this event as an integral part of our continued safety success here at the mill,” says Fay Raynor, raw materials operation manager. “But safety doesn’t end at our property line. We encourage our employees to consider safety in their lives outside of work. While they may not work directly for us, we consider the men and women who drive truckloads of products to and from our mill part of our crew – so we take every opportunity to deliver safety messages to them as well.”
Earlier this year, Weyerhaeuser Company Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Steve Rogel presented the Plymouth mill with a Senior Management Team Safety Excellence award, the highest safety honor Weyerhaeuser offers.
The mill’s raw materials team coordinated the truck visibility event. The team is responsible for purchasing and delivery of logs, chips and other wood products used in the production of paper.
