SYSCO - an acronym for Systems and Services Company - has grown to $29.3 billion
in sales for fiscal year 2004. Operating throughout the United States and Canada,
today SYSCO's product lines include ingredients, meals, and serving items. SYSCO’s
extensive food distribution network requires a vast fleet of trucks and transport
including tractors (power units), straight trucks, and trailers. The average
age of SYSCO tractors is only 3.3 years.
During an average week, SYSCO truck drivers will drive over 85,000 miles. They
will also deliver over 65,000 cases per day to hundreds of foodservice establishments
within the delivery territory. The majority of business is done on a next day
delivery system. The customer orders one day and SYSCO delivers the next day;
all the while working with perishable and temperature sensitive product.
SYSCO often compete in driving competitions called "Roadeos." The
trophies that they have brought home from these competitions reflect the quality
