Rite Aid Associates at Tuscaloosa Distribution Center Say No to Union Representation
Tuscaloosa, AL (December 7, 2001)--Associates at the Rite Aid Distribution center in Tuscaloosa, Alabama voted against representation by United Steelworkers Union Local 351 in an election yesterday by a margin of two to one. Official ballots totaled 179 against the union and 82 for union representation.
“We are pleased that our associates feel they can be successful without interference from an outside party,” said Rick Linto, manager of the Rite Aid Distribution Center. “I appreciate our associates’ commitment to hard work and together we will continue to maintain a positive work environment.”
Approximately 247 of the 277 associates in the voting group work at the distribution center on Rice Mine Road. The other associates work in a satellite facility in the Cottondale Industrial Park.
A petition for election was filed with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) approximately six weeks ago. Rite Aid associates opposed to the union formed an information committee that led, in part, to the union’s defeat.
