Rinker Materials Wins Safety Award
For the third straight year, Rinker Materials won the Overall Team Award during the Florida Concrete & Products Association's 5th Annual Safety & Skills Competition held recently at the Tampa State Fairgrounds.
More than 100 drivers, operators and masons throughout the state represented more than 15 companies in five events comprising Ready Mix, Preventive Maintenance, Forklift, Front-End Loader and Fastest Trowel contests. Florida Department of Transportation commercial vehicle enforcement officers provided judging on the obstacle courses, and written tests were also a part of the competition.
In the Ready Mix Truck Driver Competition, Steve Danison won 1st place for the second year in a row. In the Preventive Maintenance Team Competition, David Heckethorn and Gregory Day won 1st place. Heckethorn also won 1st place in last year's competition. Another Rinker Materials team comprising Mike Dicks and Alex Perez won 2nd place in the same competition. Dicks and Perez both placed 3rd last year. In the Forklift Competition, Bill Lindsey won 1st place.
Honorable Mentions for Team Rinker in the Ready Mix Competition were Robert Graham and Jean (Dino) Dusseault; in the Forklift Competition, Venous Dodson and Gary Mosher; and in the Front-End Loader Competition, Donald Gunderson, Ralph Gonzalez and Doug Jayne.
The purpose of FC&PA's Safety & Skills Competition is to promote industry-wide professionalism and safety in plants, on jobsites and on the highways, where the ready mix truck drivers have the added responsibility of sharing the roadways with conventional sized vehicles. Rinker Materials has implemented four core values within the company, which include Safety, Employee Satisfaction, Customer Satisfaction and Operational Excellence. Participation in FC&PA's Safety & Skills Competition supports those core values.
