McKee Sends Help to Families, Victims, Disaster Workers
WASHINGTON, DC, September 18, 2001 – One week after the terrorist attacks
in New York and Washington, the member companies of the Grocery Manufacturers
of America (GMA) have stepped up efforts to provide major financial contributions
as well as truckloads of food, beverages and other essential needs for the victims
of this tragedy.
Given the needs of the victims, survivors and relief workers, the food, beverage
and consumer products industry is in a unique position to provide the kind of
help needed by the disaster relief organizations. Like most Americans and U.S.
businesses, the industry felt an immediate impulse to do everything it could
to help those in need.
To help the American public understand the industry’s efforts to aid
disaster relief efforts, GMA is committed to providing the media a comprehensive
picture of its member company contributions.
McKee Foods Corporation, makers of Little Debbie Snack Cakes and Sunbelt Snacks,
donated $100,000 to the American Red Cross. In addition, McKee Foods has delivered
more than 264,000 snack products to assist victims and workers in Washington,
DC and New York.
