Buckhead Kroger comes on Board with BATMA
Store management to Offer Employees Alternative Commute Programs

The Buckhead Area Transportation Management Association (BATMA) welcomed Kroger's Buckhead store as its newest member this month. Kroger has signed on as a Principal-level member of BATMA in an innovative step toward improved em relations and greater community involvement.

"We intend to truly be a proactive part of the Buckhead community," said Ed Ftacek, store manager. "By partnering with BATMA, we hope to be a part of the solution to such problems as traffic congestion and pollution by offering our employees affordable, alternative methods of traveling to and from work, as well as creative solutions to many of our customers' commuting woes."

The Kroger store, located on Piedmont Road just north of Peachtree, has been closed for extensive renovations and celebrated a grand re-opening February 15. With an entirely new staff and more than$4 million of improvements, the store will be an asset to the Buckhead community. As a member of BATMA, Kroger will be able to offer its 235 employees alternative commute programs and incentives, such as discounted MARTA passes and vanpools. BATMA will conduct employee orientation this week, letting the all-new work force know about their transportation options.

In addition, to help spread the word about alternative transportation options in the Buckhead community, information on BATMA's programs will also be posted in the store's new community information area and on bag stuffers.

"We're excited to have community businesses interested in and supportive of the work we're doing - especially to the level Kroger has demonstrated," said Denise Wright BATMA executive director. "Kroger has expressed a desire to be very active and community-minded, and that's sure to have an impact," she added.

BATMA is a pro-active partnership of private businesses, public agencies, and residential and civic associations in the Atlanta region fostering public-private partnerships to develop solutions for activity centers facing unique transportation challenges.
