Biodiesel to Be Introduced at Six Greater Cincinnati Stations
(CINCINNATI, OHIO) – The Lykins Oil Company will introduce biodiesel at six retail stores in the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area on Friday, October 29, 2004. This premium-quality diesel blend, containing two percent biodiesel, will be introduced at prices competitive with petroleum diesel. The six stations are the first retail stations in the Greater Cincinnati/Dayton area to offer biodiesel, and the first in the entire state of Kentucky. State and local officials in Kentucky and Ohio have volunteered to man the pumps following ribbon-cutting ceremonies. Officials from Lykins and biodiesel supplier Griffin Industries will also be serving customers. Ceremonies will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Mason, Ohio Marathon station (Highway 42 at Snider Road) and at 11:30 a.m. at the Hebron, Kentucky BP station (just north of I-275 at the Hebron exit). The six stations that will be offering biodiesel and their locations are: • 6391 Reading Road, Mason, Ohio Marathon • 1144 State Route 131, Milford, Ohio Exxon • 111 Wm. C. Good Blvd., Franklin, Ohio Shell • 2144 Kilgore Place, Hebron, Kentucky BP • 2005 Patriot Way, Independence, Kentucky BP • 4618 Route 8, Cold Spring, Kentucky BP Biodiesel is a locally produced fuel that can help relieve the U.S. dependence on foreign oil. It is a cleaner-burning fuel that can be made from any fat or vegetable oil, such as recycled cooking oils or soybean oil. Its horsepower, fuel economy and performance are the same as conventional diesel. Diesel engines require no modifications to use biodiesel, and no special equipment or training is required to handle it. The fuel can be used in its pure form (B100), or blended with petroleum diesel at any level, such as two percent (B2). The six stations in Greater Cincinnati sold a total of more than 650,000 gallons of diesel in the past year. “By taking the lead on the introduction of biodiesel, we hope to open a market for this important source of energy security for our country,” said Jeff Lykins, President of Lykins Oil. He is also Chairman of the Petroleum Marketers Association of America. Lykins will be able to provide any blend of biodiesel, including 100 percent pure biodiesel, to its wholesale customers. Several biodiesel fact sheets are available at http://biodiesel.org/resources/fuelfactsheets. The Tri-State Clean Fuels Network (TSCFN) is a group dedicated to reducing Greater Cincinnati’s dependence on foreign oil. TSCFN is one of 88 Clean Cities organizations supported by the U.S. Department of Energy. Its members are concerned about energy security, the environment and our economic future. Griffin Industries and Lykins Oil Company are among TSCFN’s stakeholders.
