GT Nexus Gears Up for Business after Successful Pilot

First Industry Solution Deployed through a Single Network of Integrated Carriers

Alameda, California, June 13, 2001 - GT Nexus, the leading provider of global e-logistics solutions, today announced the completion of a successful pilot program that was launched on April 2, 2001. Over 120 customers – including importers, exporters and international freight forwarders – participated with over a dozen global transportation carriers in managing their containerized freight through the GT Nexus suite of Web-based applications. The launch marked several firsts for the industry. It is the first implementation of a system that offers standardized transportation processes across a broad section of the industry. It is also the first instance of an industry-wide solution driven by Web applications integrated with the back-office systems of multiple global carriers.

Over 600 users from 120 companies participated in the launch. During this period, over 20,000 shipments were managed and tracked through the network, across origins and destinations in North and South America, Asia, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Participating carriers included APL, CP Ships, Crowley Liner Services, CSAV, Hanjin, Hyundai, “K” Line, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Senator Lines, Wan Hai, Yang Ming, and Zim Israel Navigation Company. The launch provided customers with standardized processes for managing rate requests, booking, documentation exchange and shipment tracking, among other interactions. All participating customers and carriers will continue to use the system as it is opened to additional participants worldwide.

“Our worldwide logistics require us to work with multiple global transportation providers. GT Nexus gives us a common way to do business with our carriers through efficient Web-based processes. We anticipate significant time and money savings in our global transportation management operations,” said David Laurine, Assistant Manager, Marine Transportation at Georgia-Pacific Corporation, one of the world’s leading manufacturers and distributors of paper and building products with nearly 600 facilities in 13 countries.

“GT Nexus solutions bring much needed industry standards. We now have one way to do our bookings with multiple global carriers. From a single site. Creating bookings from the templates in the GT Nexus system is a big time-saver for us,” said Scott McCauley, Manager, Export Distribution at US Borax. US Borax is a division of London- based Rio Tinto, one of the world's largest mining concerns that supplies nearly half the world’s demand for borates to customers in nearly 100 countries.

"Finally, we have one site where we can track our shipments across multiple container carriers. I can set my own alerts and proactively manage exceptions,” said Scott Hyde, Manager of Transportation Services at Rayonier, a premier producer of performance fibers with customers in more than 50 countries.

Over this period, the company also announced that two Fortune Global 20 companies, ITOCHU Corporation and The Hewlett-Packard Company, had deployed their own private logistics networks powered by GT Nexus to manage their global ocean freight.

"The pilot program has been a great start in driving standardization across the industry," said John Gurrad, Vice President, Business Planning and E-Commerce, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines. "This is good news for customers and carriers alike and we are doing our part. Carrier partners have all been integrating their systems with GT Nexus solutions to drive use and adoption."

"GT Nexus is a win-win solution for the entire industry," said E. S. Kwon, CIO of Hanjin. "Customers gain a simpler way of doing business with their chosen partners. Through process automation and systems integration, carriers gain tremendous process efficiencies that continue to leverage our existing investments."

"There is a strong commitment within the industry to simplify and standardize the complex processes of global transportation. GT Nexus is right at the center of this revolution and is rapidly gaining adoption," said Aaron Sasson, CEO of GT Nexus. "Our launch has been a huge success, but this is just the beginning of the innovation we will bring to the industry."

In July 2001, GT Nexus will extend general availability of its solutions in North America and targeted availability in Europe and Asia.
