Georgia-Pacific Selects QUALCOMM's Mobile Communications System for Private Fleet Tracking and Management

 

February 24, 2003 —  SAN DIEGO -- February 24, 2003 -- QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), the leader in mobile communications for the transportation industry, today announced that Georgia-Pacific, one of the world's leading manufacturers of tissue, packaging, paper, building products, pulp and related chemicals, will enhance its fleet management system with QUALCOMM's Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA)-based digital wireless communications solution. Georgia-Pacific has signed a contract with QUALCOMM to equip 300 of its vehicles with QUALCOMM'sOmniExpress® mobile communications system andMVPc® in-vehicle computers with theFleetAdvisor® on-board mobile applications.

"QUALCOMM's mobile fleet communications system provides improved fleet management crucial to our successful business operations."

 

Georgia-Pacific conducted financial modeling in evaluating use of QUALCOMM's solutions and expects to significantly improve productivity per day per driver with use of QUALCOMM's OmniExpress system and FleetAdvisor applications.

 

QUALCOMM's MVPc is capable of running hand-held PC Pro, industry, or custom Microsoft Windows® CE applications to provide in-vehicle processing power for the flexible and effective management of a mobile workforce.

 

The FleetAdvisor in-vehicle application consists of real-time communications, a global positioning system, full function on-board computing using the MVPc in-vehicle computer, host-based fleet management application suite, extensive fleet management reports, and back-office integration. Other FleetAdvisor on-board applications include automatic arrive and depart time stamps, driver activity reporting, transaction recording and driver's schedule.
