Frito-Lay Announces 50 New Jobs and a $15 Million Investment at Lynchburg Manufacturing
Facility
LYNCHBURG, Va. (June 14, 2001) - Frito-Lay, the world's favorite convenient
fun food company, announced today 50 new jobs and a $15 million investment through
an expansion of operations at its Lynchburg, Va. manufacturing facility.
The expansion, which includes the installation of a new production line, will
support the production of a new bite-size snack product that will be introduced
in December 2001.
"The State of Virginia and the City of Lynchburg have been strategic partners
for growth over the past few years. What better way to thank them than choose
Lynchburg as our site for this operations expansion," said Bob Crain, Vice
President, Operations, Southern Region, Frito-Lay.
Equipment installation will begin immediately, with a target completion date
in November.
"We are very pleased that Frito-Lay has decided to make this significant
investment in its Lynchburg operations," said Mayor Carl B. Hutcherson,
Jr. "Three years ago, when Frito-Lay announced its decision to come to
Lynchburg, we believed it sent a message throughout the state and beyond that
Lynchburg was open for business. Today's announcement is an affirmation of that
fact. We thank Frito-Lay and its employees for their continued commitment to
this community."
The Lynchburg facility, which opened in 1998, currently employs 300. Today,
the 410,000 square-foot facility manufactures Doritos Tortilla Chips, Tostitos
Tortilla Chips, Lay's Bistro Gourmet Potato Chips, Lay's Wow! Potato Chips and
Santitas Tortilla Chips. More than 23 million pounds of the new bite-size snack
product will be produced annually at the site.
