Dot Employees Present Founders With Commemorative Trailer
Dot Foods, the nation's foremost food redistributor, was founded in 1960 in Mt. Sterling, IL, by Robert and Dorothy Tracy. The company's subsidiary, Dot Transportation, delivers food products nationwide in its fleet of semi trucks and trailers.
What better gift, then, than a specially-designed trailer for the Tracys!
"We wanted to present RT and Dorothy with something that would be not only useful, but would be around for some time," says Dave Ferrill, who helped coordinate the project. "The idea of a trailer also allows it to be seen at all of our five locations rather than only at the corporate location.
"Besides, what better way to tell the world how proud we are to work for a company that feels the way Dot does about its employees, than with a 53-foot rolling billboard?!"
The Tracys, although retired, still maintain involvement with the family business. Of their 12 children, seven are employed by the business, as well as two sons-in-law.
The $25,000 trailer was purchased with personal donations from employees. It was presented as a surprise to the Tracys at the company's Annual Meeting January 29 in St. Louis, MO. The 53-ft. Great Dane trailer is now being put to use transporting food products, just as Dot's other trailers are.
The special design of the trailer includes the Dot logo emblazoned in gold and silver on the sides of the trailer, and an inscription which reads: "The employees of Dot Foods/DTI give this trailer in honor of our company's founders, Robert and Dorothy Tracy, whose commitment to a dream enriches the lives of many."
Dot Foods and Dot Transportation together employ nearly 1400 people at five locations: Mt. Sterling, IL; Chesterfield, MO; Williamsport, MD; Modesto, CA; and Vidalia, GA.
