5/6/2005 - Hormel Foods Corporation, a multinational manufacturer and marketer of consumer-branded meat and food products, presented a “Partner in Quality” individual award to Pam Roth, Regional Credit Representative for Bunzl/Packers/Koch in Kansas City, and a “2004 Spirit of Excellence” award to the Bunzl/Packers/Koch organization.
While the “Partner in Quality” award is presented to employees of suppliers who work above and beyond the call of duty and demonstrate a quality attitude in their relationship with Hormel, the “2004 Sprit of Excellence” award is presented annually by Hormel Foods to companies that have attained predetermined levels of service that assist Hormel in its quest for superior customer satisfaction.
According to Dale Link, Sales Manager for Bunzl/Packers, Hormel’s suppliers are evaluated monthly and reviewed quarterly. Hormel’s measurement system, Supplier Quality Management (SQM), tracks deliveries, administration requirements, product integrity and quality, customer service and conducts on-site audits. To qualify for a “Spirit of Excellence” award, the supplier must score above 96 percent.
The program with Hormel involves more than half of BunzlÂ’s 16 processor warehouses across the nation, as well as handling overseas exports to Beijing and Shanghai, China, and Manila, Philippines.
In addition, suppliers that qualify for a “Spirit of Excellence” award four out of five years and earn an SQM rating of 98 percent or higher also can earn the prestigious “#1 Hormel” award. Since 2000, when Packers won the #1 Hormel award, the company has earned three “Sprit of Excellence” awards.
“We’re a strong contender to win the ‘#1 Hormel’ award again and are diligently working for that long range achievement, which takes half a decade to acquire,” said Link. He added that Hormel, a 114-year old company, established in 1891, has been a customer of Packers for the past 27 years.
