March 9, 2004 - The Compressed Gas Association (CGA) has awarded its prestigious Bulk Fleet Safety award to Linde for the seventh time in the last 10 years. The award was presented to Linde's vice president of distribution and logistics, Mike Gentile, at the CGA's annual meeting in Florida earlier this month.
The award is given annually to the company whose bulk vehicle fleet has the best safety record per million miles driven. The fleet must complete a minimum of 20 million miles in order to qualify. Last year, Linde's 900 drivers achieved their award-winning safety record while driving nearly 60 million miles to deliver over 6 million tons of liquid oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, argon, carbon dioxide, and other gases and maintain their industry-leading delivery reliability rate.
"The award is a tribute to the character, professionalism and pride of our drivers and managers," Gentile said. "It proves that our emphasis on safety processes and programs is effective. While we are proud of this honor, we recognize that we must remain focused until we eliminate all accidents. We will use this award as additional motivation to further improve through leadership, commitment, and best practices. We expect to win it again next year with an even better safety performance."
The Linde Group (NYSE:BOX), the worldwide industrial gases, vacuum technologies and distribution services company, serves two million customers in more than 50 countries. It employs 44,500 people and had annual sales of over $7 billion in 2003.
