The BOC Group, which serves two million customers in more than 50 countries, is one of the largest and most global of the world's leading gases companies. It employs more than 46,000 people worldwide and had annual sales of over £4 billion in 2002.
The BOC Group, a top producer of industrial and specialty gasses, and a private carrier company, is concerned with the safe transportation of chemicals such as nitrogen, argon, etc. They are also responsible for the production of gasses related to the manufacture of industrial metals, microchips, refrigerant products and other products.
To ensure the continued safety of drivers and the environment, BOC Group has regular safety workshops for those in the transportation sector of the private carrier’s business. These workshops are run in conjunction with Gas Safe Consultants. Those included training and service managers, health and safety supervisors, workshop personnel and service engineers.
Workshops were designed to identify potential hazards that hadn’t been previously considered, and were not simply practical handling workshops. Raised awareness of risks will hopefully lead to safer handling of materials and prevent accidents. Attendees were also informed about national legislation regarding the industry and transportation of gases.
Refrigerant gas workshops tackled real life situations including:
gas properties, hazards and emergency procedures
road transportation
cylinder storage
manual handling of cylinders
risk assessment around site
all related legislation and codes of practice
