Air Liquide America L.P. and PBI-Dansensor America, a worldwide supplier of high-quality permeation and gas instrumentation equipment , have signed an agreement for the supply of Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) testing equipment, including the new CheckPoint hand-held oxygen/carbon dioxide analyzer.
Many food products are now packaged in a protective gas atmosphere in order to prevent or reduce their degradation in contact with air. While preserving a foods appearance and flavor, new packaging technology slows the development of microorganisms, thereby increasing shelf life. In marketing terms, it enhances product presentation and meets increased consumer demand for products that are fresh, natural and have a low preservative content.
The MAP process depends on an optimum mix of gas to assure freshness. PBI-Dansensors equipment is used throughout the MAP process for oxygen and oxygen/carbon dioxide monitoring. PBI-Dansensor advocates package monitoring as a quality assurance step to increase shelf life, consumer appeal and product throughput.
The agreement, signed during the Worldwide Food Expo in Chicago, is a win-win for both Air Liquide America and PBI-Dansensor America. According to Pascal Vinet, senior vice president, Industrial Customers business unit for Houston-based Air Liquide America, PBI-Dansensors equipment is a perfect fit for Air Liquide giving our high-purity and food-grade gas customers the testing and analytical expertise necessary to meet todays rigorous food safety and quality standards. Further, this agreement completes our MAP supply chain, providing our customers a one-stop source for their needs.
James Margiotta, vice president of PBI-Dansensor America, a subsidiary of PBI-Dansensor A/S, said the New Jersey-based company chose Air Liquide because of its commitment to quality. Ensuring that our customers end products are of the highest possible quality is a cornerstone of PBI-Dansensors success, Margiotta said. PBI-Dansensor has extensive knowledge in product safety related to modified atmosphere packaging.
