Meeting Changing Dietary Needs
In ZhangJiaGang, China, prepared soybeans tumble into a solvent extractor. This equipment separates oil from the soybeans. The defatted soybeans will then be ground into soybean meal for livestock feed. This product is the most widely used protein ingredient for this industry.
ADM is its increasing processing capacity in Asia, where demand for protein meal is driven by both growing populations and the rising prosperity that builds demand for poultry and pork. ADM is working hard to meet the evolving dietary demands of this flourishing region.
Renewable Resources for a Cleaner, Greener World
In Hamburg, Germany, an esterification process turns canola oil into fuel for diesel engines. This esterification process converts the vegetable oil into a lower viscosity ester that is more compatible with fuel injectors. In this case, the fuel produced, called biodiesel, offers a fully renewable alternative to petroleum-based fuels. The emissions-reducing fuel is fast becoming the green fuel of choice in Europe.
Sweetening Your World
In Decatur, Illinois, USA, a steeping tank is softening kernels of corn in preparation for wet milling. After 30-40 hours of steeping, the corn will be sent to a mill and separated into four different products: fiber, corn germ, gluten and corn starch.
The corn starch is broken down and turned into sugars that are used to create a variety of products. One of these products is corn sweeteners. This alternative to cane sugar is a cost-effective sweetener in an array of foods, including ice creams, salad dressings, beverages, candies, cough drops, jellies and baked goods.
Delivering the Earths Bounty
In Mato Grosso, Brazil, an ADM truck arrives at a soybean crushing facility. The truck is one of many that will arrive and depart today. Once loaded with soybean meal, the truck will travel to a trans-shipment point where ADM railcars stand by ready to take the shipments to Brazilian ports for export.
