WE ENSURE QUALITY AT EVERY STEP IN THE SUPPLY CHAIN As a vertically integrated agribusiness, we are able to ensure quality at every step in the supply chain. We have our own breed of chicken to supply eggs to our hatcheries. Our chickens and turkeys are raised in temperature-controlled houses on family-owned farms by more than 2,400 independent farm-family partners. We manufacture our own poultry feeds, carefully formulated to match the nutritional needs of our birds at every growth stage. Our flock supervisors, veterinarians and poultry welfare officers ? backed by an advanced team of scientists and laboratory technicians working with the industry's leading research and analytical equipment ? assist our producers in raising healthy birds and ensure adherence to our strict standards for food safety, poultry welfare and environmental stewardship. Our birds are humanely processed in our modern plants by associates who have each received mandatory training in food safety and quality. Each of our processing, further-processing and cooking plants has onsite USDA inspectors and all of our Quality Assurance Managers are trained as Certified Food Safety Professionals. In addition, each Perdue facility has a Food Protection Manager, certified by ServSafe, the leading food safety education program. We maintain quality control through our distribution network, including our own truck fleet, distribution and replenishment centers and dedicated cold storage and export facilities. We purchase grain from more than 5,000 local farmers to supply our feed mills and market grain internationally. Our grain receiving facilities serve farmers throughout the Mid-Atlantic and can handle more than 200 million bushels. We have our own fleet of barges, leased rail cars and a deep water port to export grain and agricultural products around the world. We are also the first poultry company to create an environmentally-friendly alternative use for surplus poultry litter, converting it into a pasteurized, organic fertilizer.
