O'Neal Steel Chooses J.D. Edwards' OneWorld To Extend Supply Chain
O'Neal Steel Inc. (Birmingham, Ala.; www.onealsteel.com), a steel manufacturer, has selected OneWorld software from J.D. Edwards (Denver, Colo.; www.jdedwards.com), a supplier of enterprise software, to extend its supply chain. O'Neal Steel will implement OneWorld and modules of J.D. Edwards' SCOREx (supply chain optimization and real-time extended execution) to reduce the incremental cost of adding new business, provide its customers with improved service and extended business processes throughout the supply chain.
O'Neal will take a phased implementation approach, with plans to go live with its financial applications during the first quarter of 1999. The company will go live with J.D. Edwards' logistics/distribution and manufacturing suites at its first production facility by the end of 1999. From that point, it will roll out the system to other locations over a period of 18 to 24 months.
Currently, O'Neal is involved in a number of partnership programs with its suppliers who employ vendor-managed inventories via electronic data interchange. With OneWorld, the company plans to extend these same services to its existing and new customers in order to facilitate growth and complete the supply chain.
