A number of Manufacturers Alliance/MAPI members have been recognized by a widely respected trade publication as finalists for a prestigious industry award. Thirteen of the 25 nominees for the annual IndustryWeek North America’s Best Plants are members, or subsidiaries of members, of the Alliance.
In an article by David Drickhamer published in the July 2004 issue of IndustryWeek, the 25 finalists, as a group, helped their facilities achieve annual cost savings upwards of 4.7 percent.
Drickhamer also notes that the finalists “dedicate significant resources to training, typically 2.3 percent of total labor costs, or 80 hours per employee per year. Injury and illness rates among most of the finalists are 60 percent of the industry average or less.”
“We are pleased that over half of the IndustryWeek Best Plants finalists participate in the Manufacturers Alliance/MAPI,” said Thomas J. Duesterberg, Ph.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of the Alliance. “Through our council and research program we provide members with access to valuable information relating to continuous improvement in productivity and innovation. These companies are the leaders in efficiency and set a high standard for all of U.S. manufacturing.”
