Associated Wholesale Grocers Receive Honors

(OSAGE BEACH, Mo.) – Associated Wholesale Grocers, Hen House Markets and S & M NuTec walked away with awards on Sunday for excellence in promoting Missouri agricultural products.

The Missouri Department of Agriculture honored Hen House Markets as Retailer of the Year as part of the AgriMissouri Retail Excellence Award contest. Associated Wholesale Grocers, which serves the metro Kansas City area, also was recognized for promoting and distributing Missouri apples to retail chains and independent stores.

The contest encouraged grocery shoppers to select Missouri products and also introduced them to vacation destinations in rural Missouri.

Other contest finalists included C & R Supermarkets, Macon; Summer Fresh Supermarkets, Marshfield; Schnucks, St. Louis; Dierbergs, St. Louis; Straubs, St. Louis; and Associated Wholesale Grocers, Springfield.

S & M NuTec, a company that manufactures dog treats that help reduce bad breath odors, control dental tartar, strengthen gums and diminish oral bacteria, received the Agriculture Exporter of the Year Award.

The award is given each year to a Missouri firm that has demonstrated successful overseas marketing strategies and a commitment to international trade. A committee of international marketing experts selects the winner from nominations submitted by the department’s international marketing staff.

Director of Agriculture Peter Hofherr presented the awards at the annual Governor’s Conference on Agriculture at Tan-Tar-A Resort, Osage Beach.
