AgriMissouri Award Winners Announced

(OSAGE BEACH, Mo.) – A Springfield-based wholesale grocery firm and grocery store, a local trade publication and two area farmers’ markets walked away with awards on Sunday for excellence in promoting Missouri agricultural products.

The Missouri Department of Agriculture honored Associated Wholesale Grocers and Summer Fresh Supermarkets as part of the AgriMissouri Retail Excellence Award contest. Associated Wholesale Grocers was recognized for providing Missouri watermelons to retailers throughout the state’s southeast and southwest regions, while Summer Fresh was honored for its community participation.

The contest encouraged grocery shoppers to select Missouri products and also introduced them to vacation destinations in rural Missouri.

Other contest finalists included Hen House Markets, Kansas City; C & R Supermarkets, Macon; Schnucks, St. Louis; Dierbergs, St. Louis; Straubs, St. Louis; and Associated Wholesale Grocers, Kansas City.

Ozarks Farm and Neighbor was honored with an AgriMissouri Media Excellence Award. The publication was recognized for its thorough and meaningful coverage of Missouri agribusinesses and products.

The award contest, launched in May, was designed to honor radio, television and print media organizations for outstanding work in reporting on products produced and processed in Missouri.

Other finalists included the St. Joseph News Press, St. Joseph; Sauce Magazine, St. Louis; the Columbia and Jefferson City Business Times; Missouri Life Magazine, Fayette; Today’s Farmer, Columbia; and Where Magazine, St. Louis.

Fair Grove Farmers’ Market received second place in the AgriMissouri Farmers’ Market Excellence Award Contest, while the Greater Springfield Farmers’ Market captured third place.

The contest recognized farmers’ markets for excellence in promoting Missouri products and incorporating the AgriMissouri logo in their promotions. Webb City Farmers’ Market received first place in the contest.

Director of Agriculture Peter Hofherr presented the awards Sunday at the annual Governor’s Conference on Agriculture at Tan-Tar-A Resort, Osage Beach.
